Having Trouble Eliminating a Double Chin?
Dieting and exercise are healthy and effective ways to lose weight and body fat. However, even after seeing results from these efforts, many patients are still left with excess fat beneath their chin and on their neck. It can be frustrating to put hard work and dedication into trying to achieve a specific goal, only to be stalled by genetics and pockets of fat that may be nearly impossible to eliminate. Fortunately, liposuction is a safe and effective solution that can be used to deliver dramatic results with minimal downtime and scarring. Facial implants can also bring added balance for an attractive, youthful-looking profile.
Dr. Newman has more than 30 years of experience helping patients achieve a smoother, more graceful neckline using liposuction.
About the Procedure
A combination of experience and advancements in surgical technology has allowed Dr. Newman to perform liposuction procedures with incredible accuracy and precision. For neck and chin liposuction procedures, small incisions will be made behind the ears and concealed beneath the chin. Patients will be provided with general anesthesia to ensure they are comfortable throughout the procedure. Next, a small, hollow surgical tube called a cannula will be inserted through the incisions. The cannula will be moved back and forth as gentle suction is applied to remove excess fat. Once the proper amount of fat has been removed, the small incisions will be closed with sutures.
How Long Will Recovery Take?
Some swelling and bruising should be expected after the procedure. During the first few days, most patients will wear a supportive chin strap and will experience the majority of their swelling at this time. Over the course of the first week following your surgery, swelling and bruising will continue to subside. Most patients will be able to resume work within the first week and then return to their normal routines after about two weeks. During these initial two weeks, patients should refrain from strenuous activity such as heavy lifting.
Is Chin and Neck Liposuction Right for Me?
Patients in good general health who are close to their ideal weight and have a double chin or excess fullness in the neck area may be good candidates for this procedure. However, if you have excessive skin that sags, or a "turkey neck," a facelift, specifically a mini facelift or a neck lift, may be necessary in order to achieve your goals. During a consultation, Dr. Newman will provide a thorough examination and offer his professional guidance to help you decide if chin and neck liposuction or another procedure is right for you.
