Facelift with Dr. Fredric Newman

After age 40, facial sagging and wrinkles can make you look older and more tired than you would like. So board-certified surgeon Fredric Newman offers facelifts in Westchester County to lift and tighten the mid-to-lower face, allowing you to refresh your appearance and look years younger without telltale signs of having work done.

What is a Facelift?

Rhytidectomy 101

With age, our faces change shape as the skin loses elasticity, fat pads shift, and muscles weaken over time. As gravity pulls the structural components of the face downward, our skin becomes slack, coarse wrinkles set in, and our faces lose youthful definition. We also develop a jowly appearance as the jawline takes on a boxy, rectangular shape.

Facelift surgery (rhytidectomy) restores a youthful, oval-shaped appearance by reducing fat deposits, tightening the facial muscles, and firming the skin. When performed by a highly qualified Westchester County facelift surgeon, most patients say they look an average of 12 years younger.

Benefits of a Facelift

What are the main advantages of facelift surgery?

A facelift with Dr. Newman can shave more than a decade off your perceived age. As he tightens the lax tissues from the cheeks to the jawline, wrinkles and fine lines disappear while the face takes on a more sculpted, toned, and younger-looking appearance. After a Westchester facelift with Dr. Newman, many of his patients are rewarded by:

  • A boost in self-esteem
  • Improved chin definition
  • A less jowly appearance
  • A decrease in perceived age
  • Fewer wrinkles and fine lines
  • A reduction in excess facial fat
  • Looking refreshed and well-rested
  • A more lifted and sculpted mid-face
  • Tighter and more toned facial muscles
  • An increase in perceived attractiveness
  • More confidence in social and professional settings

Procedure

What happens during a facelift?

Anesthesia: For your comfort, our team will administer light anesthesia so you will not feel any pain during the surgery. Dr. Newman also utilizes local anesthesia to minimize the amount of general anesthesia needed.

Liposuction: In some cases, he may incorporate liposuction into the procedure to reduce fat under the chin. This entails placing a small incision beneath the chin through which he inserts a cannula to break apart and extract the fat.

Incisions: Next, Dr. Newman carefully makes the incisions using the markings as a guide. During a full facelift, he places incisions discreetly along the hairline at the temples and around the natural creases surrounding the ears. If you have signs of aging on your neck, he may also create a small incision hidden beneath your chin.

Reshaping the Tissue: Dr. Newman carefully removes the excess tissue, tightens the underlying musculature and tissues, and re-drapes the skin.

Closure: Finally, he closes the incisions with sutures and applies a soft bandage.

Is a facelift right for me?

A facelift is worth considering if you have two or more of the following aesthetic concerns:

Facelift surgery is generally for patients aged 40 and older who display advanced signs of aging. There is no upper age limit so long as you are healthy enough to undergo general anesthesia. Smokers should quit for at least several weeks before and after the procedure.

  • Sagging jowls
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Platysmal bands on the neck
  • Deep wrinkles around the mouth
  • Lax skin on the cheeks and lower face
  • A droopy, tired appearance after significant weight loss

When undergoing facial plastic surgery, realistic expectations are a must. A facelift with Dr. Newman can make you look years younger, but it will not make you look like a celebrity, and it will not cure underlying mental health issues such as depression or body dysmorphic disorder. Expect to look like yourself, only younger and more vivacious!

Consultation and Preparation

What can I expect during my consultation?

During your private consultation at his Westchester County plastic surgery office, Dr. Newman will meet you personally to discuss your facial aging concerns. After evaluating your skin quality and reviewing your medical history, he will create a bespoke surgical plan that best fits your goals. Feel free to bring a list of questions to your appointment.

Recovery and Aftercare

You will have access to a private recovery space in our state-of-the-art facility. Facelift surgery is an outpatient procedure, meaning you can return home the same day. Someone should be present to drive you home.

Most of the bruising, swelling, and tenderness resolves in the first 14 days. Numbness in the skin generally subsides within a few weeks. Take any prescribed medications as directed.

Dr. Newman will see you periodically in his office for post-operative appointments. He will remove any stitches approximately five days after your procedure. Our aftercare program allows you to meet with Dr. Newman as often as you need to for 12 months after your surgery.

Most patients resume work and driving in one to two weeks. Light activities and exercise may resume at four weeks post-op.

Results

Seeing is Believing

After fully recovering from their facelift Westchester County patients enjoy a dramatic reduction in facial lines, smoother skin, and a less jowly appearance. The face takes on a firmer and more sculpted appearance from the mid-face to the jawline. It takes around three to six months to appreciate the final results, although most patients see improvements within four weeks.

In the hands of an experienced Westchester facelift surgeon such as Dr. Newman, the results last up to ten to 20 years with proper care. To maintain your age-defying results, invest in anti-aging skincare products, avoid smoking, and apply sunscreen daily.

Facelift FAQs

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you will need to delay your procedure.

Driving is restricted for five to seven days or longer if you undergo additional procedures such as an eyelid lift which may temporarily blur the vision.

The best sleeping position is lying on your back with your head propped up on two or three pillows. Elevating the head reduces facial swelling post-surgery.

With proper aftercare, a facelift can last anywhere from ten to 20 years.

The truth is, it depends on the type of facelift. A mini facelift costs less than a full facelift. Adding chin liposuction to the procedure can increase costs. On average, the patient-reported cost of facelifts in the United States is approximately $12,375.

Non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures can address signs of aging, but if you want to look a decade or two younger, there is no substitute for facelift surgery.

Dr. Newman can safely perform related anti-aging procedures at the same time, depending on your problem areas. The most popular complement treatments include blepharoplasty, dermal fillers, laser skin resurfacing, and forehead lift surgery.
