Frequently Asked Questions

For your convenience, we have provided a list of frequently asked questions below discussing issues that typically come up during initial consultations with Dr. Newman. If you have additional questions about any of our cosmetic surgery services, our staff will be happy to assist you.

Does cosmetic surgery hurt?

Prior to undergoing cosmetic surgery you will be given either local or general anesthesia, depending on the treatment performed. This will help to ensure that no pain is felt during the operation, as well as to make you feel more comfortable. Some mild discomfort, bruising, and swelling during recovery is to be expected; however, this often does not last long and typically can be managed with prescription medication provided by Dr. Newman.

Will everyone notice that I had plastic surgery?

Natural-looking results are a priority for Dr. Newman, and he will strive to enhance your inherent beauty according to your anatomic needs and expressed goals. His ability to deliver the most natural look possible has gained the respect of his patients and peers alike. In many cases, family members and friends may remark upon your more youthful appearance, but they likely will not suspect that you had cosmetic surgery without actually being informed.

How long will my results last?

Body and facial contouring procedures are designed to permanently reshape and aesthetically enhance your natural structure. Examples include rhinoplasty, chin augmentation, breast enhancement, and breast reduction.

Many of the facial rejuvenation procedures offered at The Aesthetic Surgery Center of Connecticut, including facelift, neck lift, forehead lift, and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), typically offer results that can last years. You will always have the benefits of the surgery; however, you will go on aging, and at some point you may want to refresh your appearance again.

Will my surgery leave any permanent scars?

Surgical procedures require incisions, and scars are often an unavoidable part of undergoing treatment. Dr. Newman, however, utilizes the most innovative approaches available to help minimize the appearance of scars. Where possible, he will conceal the incision within a natural skin fold or crease, or he will create the incision where it will be as inconspicuous as possible. Regardless of your chosen cosmetic enhancement, Dr. Newman will endeavor to make any scar hidden or barely noticeable.

Is plastic surgery safe?

In the last few decades there have been numerous advances made in plastic surgery, especially with regard to technology, materials, and techniques. These innovations have helped to make cosmetic procedures far safer and easier than ever before. Still, there are potential risks and complications with any operation, and Dr. Newman will discuss the details associated with your chosen treatment during your initial consultation, as well as answer any questions and address any concerns you may have.

When can I resume normal activities?

It’s important to note that everyone heals at a different rate. In addition to your unique anatomy, the length of recovery will depend upon the type and number of procedures you receive. Generally speaking, patients often are able to return to regular daily activities in approximately one to two weeks. Strenuous activities, however, should be avoided for at least one month, unless Dr. Newman states otherwise.

How much does plastic surgery cost?

There are many factors that go into determining the price of a cosmetic procedure. The good news is that with advances in techniques and technology the cost of many treatments has been greatly reduced. Furthermore, with the availability of financing, many people are able to afford aesthetic enhancement. Additionally, Dr. Newman performs most operations as outpatient procedures at our state-of-the-art surgical facility in Connecticut. As a result, most individuals can return home the same day as the surgery, often saving money on hospital fees. Cost, however, should not be your primary concern. To achieve the best results and safest experience possible, you should choose an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon that you trust.

Does insurance cover cosmetic surgery?

While some plastic surgery procedures may be partially covered if the insurance company determines there is medical need, cosmetic surgery is almost always considered elective and therefore not covered. If you have any questions about whether your treatment may be covered, a member of our staff will be happy to answer them.

What are my financing options?

There are a number of financing companies and financial institutions available that can help to make cosmetic surgery affordable for you, including reputable lenders who specialize in plastic surgery. In many cases, these businesses offer plans with low or no down payment and low monthly rates for qualified applicants. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff can recommend a suitable firm if you are interested in financing your procedure.
