Lip Enhancement Using Fillers
Injectable dermal fillers are the most popular method of lip augmentation. Dr. Newman uses JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC to add significant volume to the lips, giving a plump, “pouty” effect that usually lasts about six months. It is approved for patients 21 and over. If you have always felt self-conscious about thin lips, or if you have noticed your lips losing volume as you age, JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC can help you achieve the appearance you desire.
The process of injecting JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is very simple and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. After discussing your goals, Dr. Newman will decide where to administer the injections by examining your face and lips. After applying a topical anesthetic, he can inject the filler using a fine needle.
You may experience some minor tenderness or discomfort after treatment that will quickly subside over the course of a day. One of the most attractive aspects of lip enhancement with fillers is that you can see a change in your lips immediately following the procedure. Lip injections are a safe, effective, and subtle way to improve your facial appearance. You can also safely undergo touch-up treatments to maintain your results.
Our goal is to improve not only the appearance of your lips, but also your confidence and self-esteem.
V-Y Flap Reconstruction
V-Y flap reconstruction uses a skin advancement technique to create a flap in the lip that can then be repositioned to reveal more of the pink lip tissue. Traditionally used in reconstructive surgery for patients with skin defects, the applications of this technique have been expanded to lip augmentation since the treatment can make lips look fuller and more attractive. The V-Y flap reconstruction is a popular procedure because the results are permanent.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and involves making a V-shaped incision on the inside the lips, sliding the V-shaped wedges forward, and then stitching them in a Y shape. Dr. Newman will make the incisions inside the mouth to push the tissue upward and outward for a fuller lip. When performed by an experienced surgeon, this technique can be completed without resulting in visible scarring. Complications are rare, but can include infection and scarring. Patients who have undergone this procedure should wait several days after their lip augmentation before returning to work.

Lip augmentation is often performed as a standalone procedure, but can also be performed in conjunction with other facial plastic surgery procedures, including rhinoplasty, forehead lift, facelift, mid-facelift, and placement of chin or other facial implants, in order to create an even more dramatic effect. During a consultation, Dr. Newman can recommend the right method of lip augmentation to meet your goals. Schedule your consultation today.
