Refresh Your Appearance with Treatment for Crow’s Feet By Dr. Fredric Newman on August 25, 2016

Woman receiving BOTOX® injections

The cosmetic market is flooded with products that promise to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Unfortunately, these products aren’t effective because they fail to address the underlying cause of facial wrinkles, such as overuse of the facial muscles. The facial muscles contract to make facial expressions. Repeated over time, these contractions will eventually result in permanent lines and wrinkles on the face, most noticeably around the eyes. Crow’s feet, the small lines that radiate from the corners of the eyes are the most common of these wrinkles. Dr. Fredric Newman offers cosmetic solutions such as BOTOX®Cosmetic to relax the facial musclesand soften the appearance of crow’s feet. Dr. Newman is happy to discuss the most effective treatments for crow’s feet available at his Darien, CT practice and recommend a solution that is most appropriate for the unique needs of each of his patients.

BOTOX®Cosmetic

BOTOX®Cosmetic is an injection that has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of wrinkles. This injection is a purified form of the botulinum toxin. BOTOX®Cosmetic is extremely effective in treating facial wrinkles, such as crow’s feet, because it addresses the source of the wrinkles. During treatment, a series of injections are administered. Once injected, the BOTOX®serum causes the muscles at the treatment site to relax. This minimizes the muscle’s contractions, which results in a softening and smoothing of the facial skin. BOTOX®Cosmetic greatly reduces the appearance of crow’s feet to give patients a more youthful appearance. BOTOX®treatment results in very few side effects and produces results within a matter of days. Results typically last about three months, but with repeated treatment, patients may find that results last longer, sometimes up to six months.

Dysport®

Dysport® is a recently introduced injection that is similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic. This solution is injected into the skin around the eyes to temporarily relax facial muscles and smooth and soften the appearance of the skin. The treatment process for Dysport® is also similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic. A series of injections will be made around the treatment site. Although most patients experience little discomfort during treatment, the skin may be numbed with a topical anesthetic prior to treatment. Treatment typically takes about 15 minutes and optimal results should be achieved within just a few days. The results of Dysport® are not permanent; to maintain results, patients should expect to repeat treatment every three to four months.

Laser Wrinkle Treatment

Laser wrinkle treatment uses the energy of a laser to reduce the severity of lines and wrinkles. Laser wrinkle treatment is safe to use on the face and can be especially effective on crow’s feet. During treatment, the laser will be passed over the treatment site where it delivers energy to the facial tissues. The heat of the laser stimulates collagen and causes the surface tissues to contract and tighten. Over time, this results in smoother, firmer skin and a noticeable reduction of wrinkles. Patients should be aware that multiple treatments are often necessary to achieve optimal results.
