Proper and pleasing proportions are a major factor in determining facial beauty. Thus, at our Connecticut- and New York-area cosmetic surgery practice, facial implants are the option many patients choose to enhance their beauty. In many cases, the most effective way to improve facial balance is to make the chin more prominent, a task that can be accomplished through the insertion of a chin implant. Better yet, visible scars, if any, are virtually undetectable after the placement of these types of facial implants.
One of the most common facial implants, a chin implant is often recommended to patients with recessed chins, sagging skin in the chin area, or large and prominent noses. Chin implants address these problems by improving the definition of the jaw and balancing out facial features.
Your procedure will be performed at our Darien plastic surgery office. First, Dr. Fredric Newman selects a facial implant that is the proper size and shape for your chin. Like other facial implants, chin implants come in a variety of forms and materials, both solid and semisolid, and look incredibly natural when properly placed.
Making a small incision either inside the mouth or just under the chin area, Dr. Newman creates a pocket into which the chin implant can be inserted. The implant is then carefully placed into this pocket in front of the jawbone. If the incision is made inside your mouth, Dr. Newman will use small sutures that will eventually dissolve on their own. If the incision is made outside your mouth, the sutures will need to be removed five to six days later when you return to our Connecticut office near New York for a follow-up exam. After placing facial implants, Dr. Newman tapes the chin in order to reduce any swelling and discomfort.
Chin implant surgery is often performed in conjunction with other procedures such as nose surgery or facelift to create an even more striking effect.
Cheek implants are particularly useful for giving the face a full, rounded appearance. Plump cheeks are associated with youth, but the fat pads that give our cheeks shape gradually flatten with age, unfortunately. Thus, at our New York- and Connecticut-area office, many patients opt for facial implants placed in the cheek to eliminate the "sunken" look that can occur as we get older.
Jaw implants can lend a sense of symmetry to the face and balance out a prominent nose. Jaw implants can also add width to the face and enhance a "weak" jaw. These types of facial implants are especially popular with men, as a strong jaw is often associated with masculinity, while a receding jaw can be associated with weakness.
The procedure for placing other types of facial implants is similar to that for chin implants. Dr. Newman will make an incision inside the mouth or in a crease in the facial skin. The facial implants will then be placed in the pocket that has been created and the incision will be stitched up. A cheek implant is typically placed internally through the upper lip, while jaw implants are inserted through the inside of the lower lip.
Dr. Newman can tell you what type of facial implant will best enhance your features, or whether another procedure could give you the results you desire. Patients in the Tri-State Area should contact Dr. Fredric Newman at his Connecticut- and New York-area office to learn more about facial implants.
