New York and Connecticut – Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Information

People like to say that you can tell a lot about a person from their eyes. Aesthetically pleasing eyes can reflect energy and confidence, while droopy skin, puffiness, or dark circles may make others believe that you are tired or unhappy.  Fortunately, we can easily solve these problems with eyelid surgery at our surgical center in Darien, Connecticut near New York.

If you are self-conscious or physically troubled by excess skin or other eyelid maladies, blepharoplasty, or cosmetic eyelid surgery, could be the perfect cure.

Is cosmetic eyelid surgery right for me?

Upper blepharoplasty can remove drooping skin and fat in the upper eyelids that can obscure vision and detract from an otherwise beautiful face. Lower blepharoplasty, meanwhile, can reduce baggy skin under the eyes by tightening the skin. Both procedures are simple and leave relatively little evidence of any intrusion at all. The Aesthetic Surgery Center of Connecticut near New York offers both upper and lower eyelid surgery options to its patients.

You may be a candidate for upper eyelid surgery if you suffer from one or more of the following:

  • The disappearance of the natural fold of the upper eyelids
  • Excess skin in the upper eyelids that hangs down over the eyes
  • A tired appearance from puffiness in the upper eyelids

You may be a good candidate for lower eyelid surgery if you have:

  • Fine wrinkles below the eyes
  • Excess skin, including bags, of the lower eyelids
  • Dark circles below the eyes

To complement your eyelid surgery, you may want to consider additional procedures offered at The Aesthetic Surgery Center including a brow lift, facial implants, BOTOX® injections, and laser skin resurfacing.

How is cosmetic eyelid surgery performed?

During such a procedure at our clinic serving Westchester County, New York, and Fairfield County, Connecticut, eyelid surgery patients typically receive local anesthesia and intravenous sedation.

Eyelid surgery typically lasts one to three hours, depending on the patient and the extent of the surgery. If both the upper and lower eyelids are being worked on, Dr. Fredric Newman will most likely start with the upper lids, and then proceed to the lower lids.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper eyelid surgery begins with an incision, usually made in the natural crease of the eyelid, beginning at the inside corner of the eye and extending past the outer corner. Through this incision, the surgeon removes excess skin and fat. The incision is then sewn up with stitches.  The folds of the eyelid usually hide any scars.

Lower Blepharoplasty

For lower eyelid surgery, the incision is usually made just beneath the lower eyelashes. The surgeon removes or reshapes skin, muscle, and fat through this incision. The underlying muscle may also need to be tightened. The incisions are then sewn up. For patients who don't require extensive adjustments, lower blepharoplasty can sometimes be performed with an incision on the inside of the eyelid.
