Breast Lift Procedure
A breast lift is a commonly requested cosmetic enhancement procedure among women. At The Aesthetic Surgery Center, breast lift surgeries can be combined with breast augmentation for women who would like an even fuller bustline. Or, it can be performed as an individual procedure for women who simply want to reverse the effects of natural sagging. During the breast lift procedure, Dr. Newman will begin by making an incision starting around the areola (the pigmented area surrounding the nipple), straight down and then in the crease under the breast. The breast tissue is then reshaped, and excess skin is removed. The skin that remains is tightened, and the nipple repositioned. As a result, the breasts will look fuller and shapelier, adding a contoured, more youthful appearance.
"Doughnut" Mastopexy
This alternative procedure for patients with smaller breasts or less sagging is not as invasive as a traditional breast lift. Dr. Fredric Newman offers a type of breast lift called the "doughnut" mastopexy, which involves removing a circular area of skin surrounding the areola. The remaining skin is tightened and stitched together. The "doughnut" mastopexy is beneficial because of its reduced scarring.
Breast Lift Recovery
Following breast lift surgery at our Connecticut surgical facility, patients may experience swelling and bruising. However, pain and discomfort is minimal and can be controlled with medication. For several days following a breast lift, patients must wear a surgical bra. Stitches are removed at one and two weeks after the surgery. After a few days the patient may resume normal, but not vigorous, activity.
