Types of Breast Implants

Most patients opting for breast enlargement will receive saline breast implants. The implant is a silicone-based shell that is filled with a saltwater solution. This is considered safer than silicone-filled breast implants because the body can easily absorb saline in the event of rupture. Breast Implant Preparation

During your initial consultation, Dr. Newman will go over, in detail, the breast implantation procedure. This way, you will be able to make the determination as to whether or not breast augmentation surgery is the ideal procedure for you. Dr. Newman will discuss your goal breast size, where the incisions will be placed, and whether the breast implants will go over the chest muscle (directly behind the breast tissue) or under it (above the chest wall). Dr. Newman will explain the advantages and disadvantages for all implant placement options at your initial breast implants consultation.

Incision Locations

Before implantation, the incision can be placed in one of three places: the crease under the breast; the edge of the areola (the dark-skinned area around the nipple); or inside the armpit. Although incisions must be made, Dr. Newman strives to keep them as small and inconspicuous as possible. His superior skill and reputation for exceptional results draws patients from throughout Fairfield County, Westchester County, and Darien, as well as patients from around the country and the world.

Implant Insertion

After the incision, Dr. Newman will create a pocket for the breast implant. Special sizers may be used to determine the optimal implant for each patient. Dr. Newman will then insert the implant. After stitching the incisions, Dr. Newman will fit the patient with a postoperative bra.

The breast implants procedure can be done on an outpatient basis at The Aesthetic Surgery Center. Breast implants are placed while the patient is under general anesthesia, and the surgery usually takes about two hours to complete. Some aspects of the procedure will vary if the patient is receiving breast implants in conjunction with a breast lift, or as part of a breast reconstruction procedure or breast implant revision.

Breast Implant Recovery

Postoperative surgical dressings are minimal and usually removed within a few days of breast implant surgery. Stitches are typically removed after about a week. Swelling should subside quickly but can, in some instances, remain for a period of months. Patients can usually return to work just a few days after receiving breast implants.
