A person’s eyes can say a lot about them, or at least that’s what most people seem to believe. Unfortunately, common signs of aging, such as loose skin, puffiness, and sagging may be sending others the wrong message. When the skin around the eyes appears puffy and droopy, it can make a person appear tired or worn down. Upper eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, smooths and tightens the skin around the eyes to restore a more alert and pleasant appearance. Plastic surgeon Fredric Newman utilizes the safest and most reliable upper eyelid surgery technique to provide his Darien, CT and Scarsdale, NY patients with the surgical results they desire. Following recovery, patients will be pleased to find that their eyes, and overall face, appear more youthful and refreshed.

Candidates for Upper Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty is a customizable procedure that can be performed to address areas of concern around the upper and lower eyelids. Dr. Newman will recommend what type of eyelid surgery is best suited to patients based on their unique areas of concern.

Some of the imperfections that can be addressed with upper eyelid procedure include:

A patient experiencing any of the above conditions may be an ideal candidate for upper eyelid surgery as long as they are in good health and able to undergo surgery without an increased risk of complications.

The Upper Eyelid Surgery Technique

The eyes are one of the most prominent facial features. To preserve the appearance and function of the eyes when undergoing blepharoplasty, it is extremely important to work with a plastic surgeon with knowledge and experience in the field. Dr. Newman has earned a reputation for being a plastic surgeon that provides safe and effective surgery results. He utilizes a proven upper eyelid surgery technique to ensure that patients receive the aesthetic results they desire with a low risk of post-surgical complications.

Every upper eyelid procedure is performed with the patient adequately anesthetized. To make certain that the patient is completely comfortable throughout the surgery Dr. Newman typically uses both local anesthesia and intravenous sedation. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Newman will make the surgical incision. The upper eyelid incision starts at the inside corner of the eye, extends across the upper eyelid (at the natural eyelid crease) and ends just past the outer corner of the eye. Through this incision, Dr. Newman can make any necessary alterations, including removing excess skin and eliminating fatty tissues. When adequate skin and tissue has been removed, the remaining skin will be pulled together, and the incision will be closed. When patients recover, the skin of the upper eyelid will be smoother and tighter, and the upper eyelid crease will be more defined. While a surgical scar will remain, the location of the incision ensures that it is easily hidden within the natural eyelid crease.
